00:00:33 --> 00:00:38 Leader Services, where together we are transforming education, one leader at a time.
00:00:39 --> 00:00:42 Now here's your host, Adam Bush. Good morning. Happy Friday,
00:00:42 --> 00:00:46 all you school leaders. Welcome to our final episode of your Morning Boost for this week.
00:00:46 --> 00:00:49 Today, we're going to take a moment to reflect on our journey through the Fitting
00:00:49 --> 00:00:54 5 newsletter and frankly, prepare ourselves for the ongoing work of leading
00:00:54 --> 00:00:58 our schools, because as we know, it just keeps on going.
00:00:58 --> 00:01:04 But today, we are concluding our exploration by delving into the vital issue of teacher retention.
00:01:04 --> 00:01:08 We're going to draw some insights from the impactful Education Week article,
00:01:08 --> 00:01:12 Better Pay Would Keep Teachers From Quitting, But There's More to It.
00:01:13 --> 00:01:17 This article, like many others, it shines a light on a persistent and multifaceted
00:01:17 --> 00:01:21 challenge that we have, and that is that alarming rate of teacher turnover.
00:01:21 --> 00:01:25 Now, while competitive compensation, of course, is undeniably a factor,
00:01:26 --> 00:01:30 and it's a significant one, It is also crucial to understand that it's just
00:01:30 --> 00:01:32 one piece of this complex puzzle.
00:01:32 --> 00:01:37 We've all witnessed dedicated and talented teachers that just leave the profession,
00:01:37 --> 00:01:41 despite receiving what might be considered even a reasonable salary,
00:01:41 --> 00:01:45 and this underscores the reality that teachers are just driven by more than
00:01:45 --> 00:01:48 just financial rewards. They seek fulfillment and
00:01:48 --> 00:01:53 purpose, and a sense of belonging, just like any other professional within their profession.
00:01:53 --> 00:01:59 Now, this Education Week article, it points out the factors like working conditions
00:01:59 --> 00:02:03 and administrative support and professional development opportunities.
00:02:03 --> 00:02:08 They are equally, if not more, crucial in retaining our valuable educators.
00:02:09 --> 00:02:13 Teachers crave a supportive and nurturing work environment where they feel valued
00:02:13 --> 00:02:15 and respected and empowered to make a difference,
00:02:15 --> 00:02:20 And yet they yearn for opportunities to grow professionally and to collaborate
00:02:20 --> 00:02:25 with their colleagues and really honestly to contribute to a positive and impactful school culture.
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 We must remember that teachers are not simply employees.
00:02:30 --> 00:02:34 They are professionals who are deeply invested in the success of their students.
00:02:34 --> 00:02:39 Now, from my perspective, this necessitates a fundamental shift in our approach to leadership.
00:02:39 --> 00:02:45 We must move beyond this transactional mindset where we focus solely on filling
00:02:45 --> 00:02:50 vacancies and instead we need to embrace a transformational approach where we
00:02:50 --> 00:02:54 prioritize the well-being and professional growth of our educators.
00:02:54 --> 00:02:58 We need to create environments where teachers feel not only just employed,
00:02:58 --> 00:03:01 but truly empowered and also supported.
00:03:01 --> 00:03:06 This involves fostering a sense of community where teachers feel connected to
00:03:06 --> 00:03:09 their colleagues, their students, and the broader school mission.
00:03:09 --> 00:03:14 And it also requires building strong relationships by fostering open communication
00:03:14 --> 00:03:17 and creating a culture of trust and transparency.
00:03:17 --> 00:03:22 Now, this article also emphasizes the pivotal role of administrative support.
00:03:22 --> 00:03:25 Teachers need leaders who are not only competent and knowledgeable,
00:03:25 --> 00:03:29 but also compassionate and empathetic. They need leaders who are willing to
00:03:29 --> 00:03:33 listen to their concerns and advocate for their needs and then also provide
00:03:33 --> 00:03:36 them with the resources and support that they need to succeed.
00:03:36 --> 00:03:41 This requires that we build genuine relationships by fostering that open communication
00:03:41 --> 00:03:44 and then creating that culture of trust and transparency.
00:03:44 --> 00:03:48 We must remember that effective leadership, it's not about power or control.
00:03:48 --> 00:03:50 It's about service and empowerment.
00:03:51 --> 00:03:56 Furthermore, we recognize that teacher retention is not just about preventing attrition.
00:03:56 --> 00:04:00 It's about nurturing thriving educators who are passionate about their work.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:05 When teachers are happy, engaged, and supported, they are more effective in the classroom.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:10 And this translates to improved student outcomes, a more positive school climate,
00:04:10 --> 00:04:11 and a stronger sense of community.
00:04:11 --> 00:04:16 It's about creating this ripple effect of positive change that will extend far
00:04:16 --> 00:04:21 beyond the walls of our schools. Now, as we conclude this week's exploration
