00:00:00 --> 00:00:05 Welcome to Your Morning Boost, your daily leadership advice to help you lead your school community.
00:00:05 --> 00:00:09 Brought to you by AWB Education and sponsored by Grundmeyer Leader Services,
00:00:10 --> 00:00:14 where together we are transforming education, one leader at a time.
00:00:14 --> 00:00:19 Now here's your host, Adam Bush. Hello and good morning, school leaders.
00:00:19 --> 00:00:22 Welcome to Morning Boost from AWB Education. Happy Wednesday.
00:00:23 --> 00:00:28 Today, we're going to step into the rapidly evolving world of AI-driven education.
00:00:28 --> 00:00:32 We're going to explore some practical strategies for leveraging artificial intelligence
00:00:32 --> 00:00:34 to enhance teaching and learning.
00:00:34 --> 00:00:38 And we're also going to focus on some actionable steps that you can take within your schools.
00:00:38 --> 00:00:42 Now, while the term AI might conjure images of futuristic robots,
00:00:43 --> 00:00:45 it's really about using technology to personalize learning.
00:00:46 --> 00:00:51 We want to automate tasks, provide data-driven insights, and all of these things AI can help us with.
00:00:52 --> 00:00:54 Now, let's start with that personalized learning.
00:00:54 --> 00:00:59 AI-powered platforms can help us analyze student data so we can identify individual
00:00:59 --> 00:01:00 strengths and weaknesses.
00:01:00 --> 00:01:05 This will also help us then tailor learning plans and content to meet specific student needs.
00:01:06 --> 00:01:11 Just imagine a math program that adapts in real time to a student's performance,
00:01:11 --> 00:01:14 that provides targeted practice on areas where they're struggling.
00:01:15 --> 00:01:20 This personalized approach can lead to significant improvements in student engagement
00:01:20 --> 00:01:25 and achievement as they're learning at exactly the pace and exactly the level
00:01:25 --> 00:01:26 they need to be learning at.
00:01:26 --> 00:01:31 As school leaders, we can research and pilot these AI-powered learning platforms
00:01:31 --> 00:01:36 in specific subjects or grade levels if we want to get a chance to take a peek
00:01:36 --> 00:01:40 at it and gather some data on their effectiveness and their impact on student outcomes.
00:01:40 --> 00:01:45 Another area where AI can make a significant difference is in automating administrative tasks.
00:01:45 --> 00:01:49 Grading assignments, generating reports, and even scheduling parent-teacher
00:01:49 --> 00:01:53 conferences, all of these can be very time-consuming for teachers.
00:01:53 --> 00:01:57 AI-powered tools, they can help automate these tasks. It'll free up valuable
00:01:57 --> 00:02:00 time for our teachers to focus on instruction and student interaction.
00:02:01 --> 00:02:05 One example would be AI-powered grading tools. They can provide instant feedback
00:02:05 --> 00:02:09 on, of course, multiple-choice or short-answer questions, which allows teachers
00:02:09 --> 00:02:13 to quickly identify where students need additional support.
00:02:13 --> 00:02:17 You can explore and implement AI-powered administrative tools to streamline
00:02:17 --> 00:02:21 workflows and reduce teacher workload or reduce workload on your office staff.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:27 AI can also provide valuable data-driven insights to inform instructional decisions.
00:02:27 --> 00:02:31 AI-powered analytics platforms analyze student data and they identify trends
00:02:31 --> 00:02:36 and patterns, and it provides teachers with actionable insights to improve their teaching practices.
00:02:37 --> 00:02:41 AI can identify struggling students early on and help teachers to intervene
00:02:41 --> 00:02:44 ahead of time before they fall too far behind.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:47 We can encourage teachers, and we should encourage teachers,
00:02:47 --> 00:02:52 to use data dashboards and analytics tools to help track student progress and
00:02:52 --> 00:02:55 therefore make data-informed decisions.
00:02:55 --> 00:02:59 However, it's also important to remember that AI is a tool, not a replacement.
00:02:59 --> 00:03:04 The human element of teaching, the empathy, the connection, the ability to inspire,
00:03:04 --> 00:03:11 that is irreplaceable. AI should be used to augment and enhance teaching, not replace it.
00:03:11 --> 00:03:14 Therefore, professional development is super critical.
00:03:14 --> 00:03:18 Teachers need training on how to use AI-powered tools effectively and how to
00:03:18 --> 00:03:20 integrate them into their teaching practices.
00:03:20 --> 00:03:24 We also may need to help them understand that they shouldn't be scared,
00:03:24 --> 00:03:26 but instead see this as a great opportunity.
00:03:27 --> 00:03:30 We want to provide opportunities for them to explore AI tools,
00:03:31 --> 00:03:35 experiment with different applications, and share best practices with their colleagues.
00:03:35 --> 00:03:39 Encourage teachers to participate in online communities and webinars that are
00:03:39 --> 00:03:41 focused on AI in education.
00:03:41 --> 00:03:44 Now, we also need to address ethical considerations.
00:03:45 --> 00:03:48 Data privacy and algorithmic bias are very important concerns.
00:03:48 --> 00:03:54 We want to ensure that AI tools that we use, they comply with data privacy regulations
00:03:54 --> 00:03:57 and that their algorithms are fair and unbiased.
00:03:58 --> 00:04:02 We want to develop clear policies and guidelines for the ethical use of AI in
00:04:02 --> 00:04:06 our schools. As Kathy O'Neill, author of Weapons of Math Destruction,
00:04:07 --> 00:04:10 she warns that algorithms are opinions embedded in code.
00:04:11 --> 00:04:15 Just don't forget that part. We must be very vigilant in assuring that those
00:04:15 --> 00:04:18 opinions we are getting are fair and equitable.
00:04:18 --> 00:04:23 But that being said, by embracing AI-driven education strategically and thoughtfully,
00:04:24 --> 00:04:29 we can create a more personalized, efficient, and effective learning experience for all of our students.
00:04:30 --> 00:04:33 We want to use AI to empower our teachers and unlock the potential of every learner.
00:04:34 --> 00:04:37 That's your Morning Boost for today. I encourage you to explore the resources
00:04:37 --> 00:04:42 available on AI in education and consider how you can implement those strategies into your schools.
00:04:43 --> 00:04:45 If you're looking for a little help getting started with that,
00:04:45 --> 00:04:49 reach out to us at AWB Education. We're happy to guide you in the right direction.
