00:00:09 --> 00:00:13 where together we are transforming education, one leader at a time.
00:00:13 --> 00:00:15 Now here's your host, Adam Bush.
00:00:16 --> 00:00:19 Good morning, innovative and forward-thinking school leaders. Happy Thursday.
00:00:19 --> 00:00:23 Welcome back to Your Morning Boost, your daily dose of strategies to streamline
00:00:23 --> 00:00:27 your leadership and empower your educational community.
00:00:27 --> 00:00:31 Today is day four, and we are continuing our journey through the March edition
00:00:31 --> 00:00:35 of the Runmire Leader Services Fitting 5 newsletter.
00:00:35 --> 00:00:40 Today, we're exploring a game-changing tool for educators, how to leverage AI,
00:00:41 --> 00:00:46 specifically chat GPT, but using it to unpack learning standards.
00:00:46 --> 00:00:51 This is in a very insightful ASCD, or the Association of Supervision and curriculum
00:00:51 --> 00:00:54 development article in one of their latest newsletters.
00:00:54 --> 00:00:58 Now, we all know the importance of clearly understanding learning standards.
00:00:58 --> 00:01:03 They're the foundation of effective curriculum planning and instructional delivery.
00:01:03 --> 00:01:08 But let's be honest, unpacking these standards, it is a very time-consuming
00:01:08 --> 00:01:10 and sometimes very challenging task.
00:01:11 --> 00:01:17 The ASCD article, it explores how ChatGPT can be a very powerful ally in this process.
00:01:17 --> 00:01:22 It will help us break down some complex standards into very actionable steps.
00:01:23 --> 00:01:27 Now, the article highlights how ChatGPT can assist in identifying key concepts,
00:01:27 --> 00:01:29 skills, and vocabulary within a standard.
00:01:29 --> 00:01:33 It also helps us generate examples of student learning and student learning
00:01:33 --> 00:01:36 outcomes, and it will suggest some assessment strategies.
00:01:37 --> 00:01:41 It's not just about saving time, though. This is also about gaining a deeper
00:01:41 --> 00:01:46 understanding of the standards themselves and then ensuring that our instruction is aligned with them.
00:01:46 --> 00:01:49 So let's talk a little more in depth about the efficiency aspect.
00:01:49 --> 00:01:53 As we know, as school leaders, we are constantly juggling multiple responsibilities,
00:01:53 --> 00:01:55 and time is a very precious commodity.
00:01:56 --> 00:02:00 By leveraging AI to assist with tasks like unpacking learning standards,
00:02:00 --> 00:02:04 this allows us to free up some valuable time to focus on other critical areas,
00:02:04 --> 00:02:08 such as instructional leadership and teacher development, student support,
00:02:08 --> 00:02:11 all the stuff that we want to get to, and sometimes we just get stuck in some
00:02:11 --> 00:02:13 of these very important tasks.
00:02:13 --> 00:02:18 Just imagine being able to quickly generate a clear and concise breakdown of
00:02:18 --> 00:02:22 a complex standard and have it ready to share with our teachers so we can get
00:02:22 --> 00:02:25 to the heart of how we're going to teach it, how we're going to assess it,
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 and how we're going to ensure that we are maximizing student learning.
00:02:28 --> 00:02:33 This is the power of AI at work for us. But efficiency, it's only one part of
00:02:33 --> 00:02:37 the equation. It also helps us enhance the effectiveness of our work in general.
00:02:37 --> 00:02:42 By providing access to this vast amounts of information and generating diverse
00:02:42 --> 00:02:46 perspectives, AI can help us gain a deeper understanding of the standards.
00:02:46 --> 00:02:50 It will also help us develop more creative and engaging instructional strategies
00:02:50 --> 00:02:51 that match with that standard.
00:02:52 --> 00:02:56 One example, chat GPT, it can help generate a list of possible lesson activities.
00:02:56 --> 00:02:59 It could also help us with differentiated instruction strategies.
00:02:59 --> 00:03:02 I have my teachers use this all the time to help us differentiate.
00:03:02 --> 00:03:06 It'll even help us identify some potential student misconceptions that we can
00:03:06 --> 00:03:08 address right out of the gates.
00:03:08 --> 00:03:12 And to be honest, from my perspective, this significant shift in how we approach
00:03:12 --> 00:03:15 curriculum planning, it's very vital to our success.
00:03:15 --> 00:03:19 AI is not replacing teachers. It's simply augmenting their abilities.
00:03:20 --> 00:03:23 It provides us with tools to become more efficient and more effective.
00:03:24 --> 00:03:29 And as school leaders, it's our responsibility to explore and embrace these tools.
00:03:29 --> 00:03:34 This ASCD article, it provides a lot of practical examples of how to use ChatGPT.
00:03:34 --> 00:03:39 You can use a lot of other AI engines as well, but it talks about ChatGPT,
00:03:39 --> 00:03:43 and it really emphasizes the importance of providing clear and specific prompts
00:03:43 --> 00:03:44 to get to the best results.
00:03:44 --> 00:03:47 I heard a professor at a conference call this the HAW approach,
00:03:47 --> 00:03:50 and I think it's perfect. Human, AI, human.
00:03:50 --> 00:03:53 So humans put in that information ahead of time. We put in everything that we
00:03:53 --> 00:03:56 need to try to get to that outcome, and then you let AI do the work.
00:03:56 --> 00:04:00 Once it's done the work, we as humans have to go back in there again and try
00:04:00 --> 00:04:03 to fine-tune that and get it to what we really, truly want it to do.
00:04:03 --> 00:04:05 We still have a huge part in AI.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:10 This article talks about that need to review and refine that output generated by AI.
00:04:10 --> 00:04:14 We need to ensure that it aligns with our specific needs and context. It's a tool.
00:04:14 --> 00:04:19 But like any other tool, it requires skilled use. We've got to use it correctly.
00:04:19 --> 00:04:24 But think about the possibilities. Using AI or chat GPT in this case to quickly
00:04:24 --> 00:04:29 generate a list of essential questions for a unit of study or to develop a rubric
00:04:29 --> 00:04:30 for assessing student learning,
00:04:30 --> 00:04:33 or even just imagine using it to help teachers analyze student work,
00:04:33 --> 00:04:35 identify areas for improvement.
00:04:35 --> 00:04:38 Just a few examples of how AI can transform your work.
00:04:39 --> 00:04:41 If you're looking for a partner in getting AI up and running in your building
00:04:41 --> 00:04:44 or just finding out a little bit more about it, reach out to us here at AWB
00:04:44 --> 00:04:46 Education. We're happy to partner with you.
00:04:47 --> 00:04:51 In conclusion, AI, it's not a futuristic concept. It is a present-day reality,
00:04:51 --> 00:04:55 and it can significantly enhance our work as school leaders.
00:04:55 --> 00:04:59 Just by embracing some tools like ChatGPT, we can streamline our processes and
00:04:59 --> 00:05:03 improve our effectiveness and really ultimately create a more engaging and impactful
00:05:03 --> 00:05:07 learning experience for our students, which is what we all want every single day.
00:05:07 --> 00:05:10 So as you plan your day, consider how you can leverage AI to streamline your
00:05:10 --> 00:05:11 work and enhance your effectiveness.

00:05:17 --> 00:05:19 AI and discover those possibilities.
