Hello and welcome to your Morning Boost, and thank you for joining me today. Today we're going to talk a little bit about being visible. I know many of us have a goal each year of being more visible, and the hardest part is to know how to actually accomplish that goal. If it were as easy as simply getting out of your office more, we would all do that. Heck, they even have standing desks that can roll around the hallways to help with being out and about. I used to have one of those. It was awesome, But just being seen isn't truly what it means to be visible. Visible leadership is more about being present. That includes being engaged in the work and having an impact on the team. Today, we're going to focus on one thing to think about, and that is are you approachable? We talk about having an open door policy, but are our people we serve comfortable with stepping inside the door. Maya Angelou's quote really fits here. She says, I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Are you too busy for people? Most of the time I have had a teacher catch me in the hallway as I'm running along to do something else and they ask to speak for a second. Right. We always hear that one. Over the years, I have learned to respond with, you know, I can give you thirty seconds right now, or I can give you thirty good minutes later. Which one is the one that you need. I'm happy to do either one. Unfortunately, my calendar dictates my days most days, and I'm sure it does that for you too. We just move from one meeting or one responsibility on to the next. We need to schedule time into our own calendars to be able to respond to the people that need our leadership and to be able to make ourselves available for others. It's kind of like office hours, you know, the ones that people know exist, and then advertise that those office hours are available if somebody stops in be engaged in that meeting. We can just not have a genuine impact on our work if we are not fully engaged in it and we're busy with other tasks. People see through that, don't forget.
