Hello, today, we are starting a series that we will do throughout our podcast and the concept of not being in charge. That's right. Most of the time when we live in the role of an educational leader, we are asked and frankly expected to lead the work we are doing from the front of the team. However, everyone in the school district, including our superintendents, certainly report to someone throughout various times of the workday, work week, and so on. We are always going to be required to work as a member of a team, and the skills to do so are easier for some than it might be for others. If you're like me, throughout your career, I'm sure you have been involved in the many different versions of personality types in the workplace trainings. Whether it's your disc profile, your scarf profile, your e skill personality, or whatever your path to this learning is I'm sure that you know your traits and how these will impact your ability to work within teams. The research has been there for years, and there is a reason that companies put a lot of time and resources into this type of training. It does matter. How we work as a team will greatly impact our ability to move forward as an organization. Whether I work in the largest district in my state or I'm typically a team of one in my school district, I need to work with others to accomplish the great work I'm doing. This may be a group of teachers and or parents, or maybe even students, but I'm likely going to be part of a team and need to function as a team at some point in time during my work as a school leader. Frankly, we should be seeking out teams to be involved in our work. That's the best way to ensure that our vision meets the needs of the community we are serving. I personally need my team to be actively involved in the work we're doing. If our team is solely relying on my intelligence and abilities, we are going to be limited to my education and my experience. I sure hope that I've had the opportunity to find all of the answers, but we know that's not going to be the case. I need the team to share their thoughts, their ideas, their experiences they're learning, anything that can add to the conversation and therefore the possible solutions. We have to do this if we're ever going to be successful. We all know the saying it takes a village, right, while a great leader also knows it takes a team.
